Obama, Romney Go tit-for-tat on Release of Documents

Here’s the situation:

Mitt Romney: refusing to disclose more of his tax return
Obama: won’t release Fast and Furious documents.

For months, conservatives have wondered why Mitt Romney has refused to bring up Fast and Furious to attack President Obama. Now, Romney has.

Mitt Romney has said it every way he can: he is not releasing any more of his tax returns.

Erin Burnett speculates on reasons why Romney hasn’t released tax returns

Possible reasons for not releasing tax returns

>> Romney had more money in tax shelters
>> He did something shady
>> He’s stupid

Erin Burnett doesn’t actually believe Mitt Romney is stupid.

Erin Burnett calls on Mitt Romney to release tax returns

Erin Burnett: It’s time, Mitt. Time to put them on the table. We all know what it is. Your taxes.

The longer Romney keeps his tax forms secret, the more intense is the speculation about what he is hiding. Why is Romney doing that? Maybe there years in which he paid no taxes. Why is he willing to sustain the damage to his campaign caused by his failure to disclose?

Speculations about what he’s hiding could be more damaging than whatever he’s hiding. Maybe Romney found the tool to retaliate, to distract the masses, the Fast and Furious documents that Obama refused to release.

This reminds me the tit-for-tat strategy, which means, ‘equivalent retaliation’. It is effective in game theory. I’m curious how this is going to play out in the Obama-Romney game.

Romney: Why won’t Obama release Fast and Furious documents?

Romney: “If we want to talk about transparency, the real issue is: Why has this President used his presidential power and executive to keep information about Fast and Furious program from being explained to the American people?” asked Romney. “This is not some personal matter, this is the action of his administration.”

In a lengthy press release posted on its website, the Romney campaign laid out a series of examples of Obama’s transparency “hypocrisy.”
