Rick Perry’s Last-Ditch Effort: Attack the Military’s Gays
An increasingly desperate Rick Perry assails gays in the military and Obama’s “war on religion.”
Rick Perry has so far spent $5.1 million on campaign commercials, far more than any of his Republican rivals. MSNBC reports that second highest spender Ron Paul has shelled out only $2.6 million, followed closely by the pro-Perry Super PAC Make Us Great Again’s $2.5 million.
Of candidate Perry’s ad buys, the majority — $3.9 million worth — have been made for Iowa, where Perry’s now airing another round, including his latest, a 30-second spot called “Strong.”
The ad shows a dressed-down Perry strolling up a grassy hill espousing his Christian faith and blasting President Obama’s “war on religion.”
“I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian. But you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know that there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school,” says the Texas governor.
“As President, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion, and I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again.”
